Facebook Lite Now has 100 Million Users

Facebook's stripped down version of its app for Android has now breached a major milestone - Garnering 100 million monthly users. This is by far the fastest growing app from the social networking behemoth.

The app has been designed for the emerging markets such as India and with low-cost smartphone sales booming, Facebook Lite has just been the perfect app for the market. The app, launched just nine months ago in June has witnessed a surge of growth in Brazil, Mexico, India, Indonesia, Phillipines while being simultaneously available in over 150 countries.

The app, weighing less than 1MB, previously had some basic features. However, with the app reaching this important milestone, Facebook shall soon be going ahead with an overhaul, bringing additional features such as Video support and multiple photo uploads, amongst other things.

Bringing the app down to 1MB wasn't an easy task. Facebook even posted it on their blog. Even though its Free Basics service has been shot down in India, this app has met with all the love and affection that Facebook so desires.

Do you have Facebook Lite installed? How has been the experience? Share in the comments below!
